Holy Family

I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving was spent in the company of loved ones.   I have officially taken down the Turkey Day decorations and am ready to start bringing out all the Christmas goodies!  Before I start the decorating though I need to finish my Christmas cards.  Thank you all for your help with my first card.  The vote was overwhelmingly for the Old Olive on the Melon Mambo, so we have a winner.

With my second card, I wanted to represent the spirit of the season.  I went with the “Holy Family” stamp set.   There is something about this image that just feels very old.   I wanted to play upon that aged feeling by having it look almost like it was printed on an old piece of parchment paper.  I tried to accomplish this by taking Very Vanilla cardstock which I roughly tore using the Tearing Edge Tool to an approximate size of  3 X 4  and then sprayed it with water.  While wet, I crinkled it up into a ball, then flattened it out.   Using the Aqua Painter filled with water and a touch of Soft Suede Re-inker I proceeded to wash over the entire piece rough edges and all.   After it had dried I used Chocolate Chip ink to stamp the image.  I backed the image layer with a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock with distressed edges.   I finished it all off with a piece of  Christmas Cocoa Designer Series Paper on Close to Cocoa card stock, with a piece of  Chocolate Chip Ribbon.   I am pleased with how it turned out, I hope it gives you some ideas for your Christmas Cards.

Old Olive on Melon Mambo

Melon Mambo on Old Olive

This year I have decided to design two different Christmas Cards to send out.   Since my schedule has been hectic and it will only get worse as it gets closer to the holidays, my thought was to keep things simple.   I decided the first  card would  be light and fun with slightly non-traditional colors.  I wanted to use the snowmen from “The More the Merrier” level three hostess set.   However I have hit a bit of a glich, in designing the first card I just could not decide which basic card and background color to go with.   I think they both have merit.  The Melon Mambo and Old Olive look good together I just could not decide which would be the basic card and which would be the textured base layer on the card.   So I made one of each and decided to let you vote.   Just click on the words in green “Comments” at the bottom of this post, and let me know which is your favorite.

CARD RECIPE: Of course all Stampin’-Up products used.  Stamp Sets – The More the Merrier & Snowflake Serenade.  Card Stock – Old Olive, Melon Mambo,  Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White.  Ink – Craft, Basic Black  Classic, Old Olive, Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry.  Rich Razzleberry Polka-dot Gross Grain Ribbon, ( I used the solid side up).  Background #1 Textured Plates with Big Shot.

Thanks in advance for helping me out on this one.

We took a little trip this week to Prescott, Arizona to see a bit of the fall colors.  The amazing yellows, golds, oranges and reds we saw were the inspiration for this birthday card for my husband.  I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I did making it.

Fall Birthday Card

“Lovely as a Tree” stamp set is one of my “go to” favorites.  I just cannot think of a holiday or occasion that you could not use this stamp set for, it is just so versatile.   Crushed Curry is the background card stock.     Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie and Ruby Red were used for the layering.  I stamped the image using Chocolate Chip Craft ink onto water-color paper, and tore the edges.   I used Pumpkin Pie Craft ink to stamp the sentiments on to Very Vanilla card stock.   Using a dry brush “pouncing” technique and re-inkers in Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry and Ruby Red,  I added the fall leaves to the trees.   When I assembled all the parts of the card I felt it needed just a touch of bling, so I embellished the corners of the tree image layers with the medium, Pumpkin Rhinestone Brads from the Circle Fire set.  Oh yeah and dimensional were used for the sentiment layers.
